Heart’s Ease Vision and Mission
Heart’s Ease Farm and Community is an education, demonstration and community center for sustainable living serving the people of Whidbey Island and far beyond. We intend to practice and teach permaculture, natural building, composting, solar cooking and heating, alternative energy, wild-crafting, small animal husbandry, home food preservation, managing woodlots, fiber production, market-gardening and many more skills of local living. We also intend to host meetings, celebrations, ceremonies, classes, workshops, performance pieces, body practices, concerts and more to serve the crucial weaving the community together and feeding our hearts and minds, not just our bodies. We also intend to consciously polish the interactions among community members, using tools like Non Violent Communication, Enneagram, Heart Sharing, Consensus and Dynamic Facilitation to smoothly and with good humor resolve conflict and manage power dynamics and draw forth each members’ inherent wisdom. Our success will be integral to our “education and demonstration” of sustainability. We also intend to develop multi-tiered agreements with one another about human interactions in community, about our non-profit educational organization, about our for-profit businesses and about our financial contractual agreements. We hope the property will, with work and love, support the spiritual, emotional, physical and intellectual needs of members and of our larger community, that it will produce all of these in abundance so we can live in a spirit of generosity.
